On Thursday, May 11, 2017, the Central Arkansas Workforce Development Area collaborated with Military Spouse Symposium and the Jacksonville Air Force base to host the 2017 Military Spouse Symposium.
This informational event informed active duty military spouses of the multiple opportunities they had available through different funding streams, including the WIOA (Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act) program.
Multiple companies, including Home Depot, Maverick, and Medlinc, represented the seven industry sectors and discussed information specific to their industry sector, opportunities for growth, occupations within the sector, room for advancement, and training and education needed to pursue a career.
Afterwards, attendees had the opportunity to visit each vendor, including Lonoke Adult Education, University of Central Arkansas, Arkansas Apprenticeships, Department of Workforce Services Discretionary Grants, and Central Arkansas Workforce Development Area.
Overall, the symposium was a success and created multiple referrals and potential workers for vendors.
