The Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) offers a Cancer Patient Navigation Program to improve cancer care for Arkansans.
The program includes a team of nurse navigators and community health workers to bridge the gap between cancer patients, healthcare providers, and community resources for finances and wellness. The mission of this team is to eliminate healthcare barriers and allow individuals to take charge of their health.
The team can help program participants learn more about preventing breast, cervical, colorectal, lung, and prostate cancer, work with individuals and their families to make the best decisions for them, help patients talk with their doctor, make connections for resources for both medical and non-medical needs- including financial and social support, help schedule appointments and discuss applicable research studies and clinical trials.
Participants do not have to receive care at UAMS to be in the program.
The Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute at UAMS is the state's only academic cancer treatment and research facility. The mission is to improve cancer care for Arkansans and cancer patients out of the state.
