While working various jobs to provide for his family, Christopher struggled to earn enough money to take care of his family due to low wages. After learning he may be eligible to receive career and educational training through the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act Program (WIOA), in April 2017, he contacted the Central Arkansas Workforce Center in Benton and met with Orlando Freeman, One-Stop Center Career Consultant.
After being approved to participate in the WIOA Adult Program, Christopher enrolled in the Diesel Driving Academy in Little Rock to receive training to become a truck driver. Christopher was self-motivated and driven to succeed in his training, which would allow him to become a certified driver of commercial motor vehicles.
Collaboration with the Saline County Adult Education Center provided additional services to ensure that he had the educational aptitude to complete the curriculum at the Diesel Driving Academy. After the completion of his extensive skills test, Christopher received his certification on June 9, 2017. A few months later, Christopher obtained full time employment at the Schneider Trucking Company, which resulted in enabling him to meet the financial needs to provide for his family.
In the end, Christopher discovered that with the proper support system, the willingness to work, and the determination to succeed, anything was possible.
