FREDERICK MCELWEE’S SUCCESS STORY

After working for LM Wind Power in Little Rock for 9 years, Frederick McElwee, a single father, lost his job due to a plant closure. Determined to pursue a more secure career path, Frederick reached out to the Arkansas Workforce Center in North Little Rock and discussed his interest in the transportation industry with Wanda Smith, a career consultant.

In May 2022, after being determined eligible for the WIOA Dislocated Program, he enrolled in the River Rock CDL Training program where he where he acquired the necessary knowledge to drive a commercial vehicle and become a CDL Driver.

Shortly after, he completed his training, obtained his license, and accepted a full-time job with Werner Enterprises, earning between $80,000 and $104,000 a year.

Adjusting and excited about his future in the transportation industry, Fredrick took advantage of the incredible opportunities provided by the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act and is now in no danger of being laid off and can provide for his family.
