Pulaski County will hold a Road & Bridge Job Fair on Thursday, August 8 at the Arkansas Workforce Center in Little Rock.
Officials will be at the Workforce Center at 5401 S. University Avenue, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
One position the county is hiring for Road & Bridge is Equipment Operator. The Equipment Operator's salary range is $30,317.82 - $39,891.80 per year. They are responsible for operating a dump truck used to transport material and equipment to repair and maintain the roads, and operating equipment used in repairing roads. The qualified candidate has good knowledge of techniques used in loading and transporting heavy equipment and road construction materials. Candidates need to know the texture and quality of asphalt for sufficient adhesion. Knowledge of chemicals to eliminate weed or insect problems is required. Qualified candidates must know the processes and procedures of road construction and maintenance. Equipment Operators must know the appropriate safety procedures to operate equipment, road construction, and maintenance work within the right-of-way. The ideal candidate will be able to complete brief narrative and numerical reports. The Equipment Operator must inspect equipment for proper working order and be able to perform basic maintenance and minor repairs to equipment. The ideal candidate works regularly and is reliable. It's important to know how to operate hand tools, and medium to heavy equipment, including the dump truck, roller, street sweeper, mower, bush hog, front-end loader, backhoe, grader, spray truck, and salt spreader. The Equipment Operator must be able to push and pull levers, push buttons, and turn steering wheels to operate equipment, must be able to frequently turn their torse and head to monitor the equipment as well as the location of other workers and traffic, must have visual acuity to ensure efficient work completion and the safety of citizens and fellow workers, must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, be able to work in a constant state of alertness and a safe manner and be able to concentrate for long periods. The ideal candidate completed grade school and has some experience operating light and medium-duty trucks and trailers, or any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities. The Equipment Operator is subject to pre-employment and random drug and alcohol testing.

Some positions may require the N endorsement, for a Tank vehicle. Regular and reliable attendance is essential for this position.
